The economy has influenced that, but the fact that modern vehicles are more durable and reliable means that owning a high mileage vehicle doesn't have to be a painful experience. Lakeside Certified Auto Grease is the WordPosted October 21, 2026 11:19 PMIf you have a rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive vehicle, it has a driveshaft. It’s the metal tube that transmits mechanical power from the transmission to the differential and, ultimately, to your wheels. Because it does a lot of turning in its lifetime, it is lubricated so that power can be transferred smoothly and quietly. After a while, it may need to be lubricated again to keep friction from damaging parts that rub together. There are different types of driveshafts. Some are considered to have a “lifetime seal” and don’t need to be lubricated for their lifetime. Others have parts called U-joints and need to be lubricated. There are some signs to listen for that can tell you if your drive shaft needs lubricating. You may hear clicks, squeaks or clunks whenever you accelerate, slow down or turn. You may also feel vibrations while you’re driving, especially at high speeds. If you notice those signs, bring it in so our technicians can look at it. If your driveshaft doesn’t have fittings, it can’t be lubricated and may need to be replaced. If it does, the technician will clean the dirt and debris around the fitting. Then, using a grease gun, they’ll pump grease into the joint and wipe excess grease off. Then, the technician will make sure the driveshaft rotates without binding or play. A newly lubricated driveshaft will last longer, is less likely to corrode and you should notice the vibration and noise you heard while driving is far less or gone altogether. Lakeside Certified Auto Make your Service Visit at Lakeside Certified Auto a Good OnePosted October 11, 2026 12:40 PMMost people don't love going to get their vehicle serviced, but it's one of those things you just have to do. So you might as well get the most of out of it. There are some steps you can take that will likely help you get the best results possible. For one thing, it's important to describe your problem (or problems) to the service advisor accurately and clearly. If your vehicle is making a noise, for example, take time to really listen to it and think of the best way to describe it. Does it increase in speed when you go faster? If you feel a vibration somewhere, where in the vehicle does it seem to originate? Some service advisors recommend writing things down. That way the driver won't forget any important clues that could lead to a successful resolution of the problem. Another thing is to make sure your vehicle is cleaned out and free of junk. That way the technician can access those nooks and crannies where some vital components may be. If your vehicle is full of strollers, boxes or your collection of fast food containers, it won't be easy for the technician to reach some of those parts. Oh, and if your vehicle is neat, it does send a signal that you really care about it. Finally, stay out of the way of the technician. A recent survey of technicians reveals they work more efficiently and do a better job when they don't have someone hanging on their every move. Can you imagine how you'd feel if someone hovered over you all day while you were trying to get your work done? Lakeside Certified Auto Bad Vibes (Disc brake rotor problems)Posted October 4, 2026 12:40 PMIf you were to name the most important safety feature on your vehicle right now, what would your answer be? A lot of driving experts would agree that it’s your brakes. Most newer vehicles use a well-engineered and efficient style of brakes called disc brakes. The name disc brakes comes from one of the components: a disc attached to the wheel hub that is squeezed by parts called calipers. If you’ve ever ridden a bicycle with hand brakes, you probably have seen how they squeeze against the rim of the bike wheel to stop the bike. It’s similar to the way your vehicle’s calipers squeeze against the disc rotor, with added parts called brake pads attached to the calipers that are what create the friction and stop your vehicle. Here’s why disc brakes need regular maintenance. Over time, that friction creates wear and tear on the brake pads and the rotors, and you’ll start to see the signs. Your brakes may have one of the 3 “S” sounds: squeaking, squealing, or scraping. The sound is usually the first sign of brake pad wear which can lead to rotor damage. Soon you may notice a pulsating or vibration when you brake. That’s because your once smooth and straight rotor disc is warping from the heat generated from friction. Or it may be due to wear. Eventually, your brakes will take a longer distance to stop your vehicle, and the rotors can have grooves carved into them. When you start noticing any of these signs, it’s a good idea to have them inspected by a trained technician. They will measure the rotor thickness, check wear patterns for grooves and heat discoloration, and see how much of the brake pads remain. They will also check to make sure all brake components are moving freely, check your brake fluid, and look for corrosion. Most vehicle manufacturers require worn or damaged rotors to be replaced, not resurfaced. It’s all part of a complete brake job, replacing pads and the brake hardware parts along with the rotors. It reduces the chance of premature failure. How often you will need your brakes serviced depends on the manufacturer’s recommendations, your driving habits, and the environment you live in. Your service facility can recommend the best replacement parts based on those factors. Regular maintenance and attention are vital for keeping your brakes performing like they are designed to. Remember, your brakes are your vehicle’s most important safety feature. Lakeside Certified Auto | ||
